Bob Weaver

Bob Weaver

Bob Weaver of West Newton, Pa, is a retired art teacher from Yough High School where he was also a varsity wrestling coach, cross country, and Track Coach. He was also the sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle. Consequently, some of his most common topics of inspiration for his artwork are sports related. Bob has created numerous commissioned portraits for both amateur and professional athletes and many of his illustrations are featured on program covers and various book covers. Bob’s subject interests are not limited to sports, as his appreciation of nature inspires him to draw countless illustrations of wildlife in their natural surroundings. Almost everyone enjoys music of some kind, including Bob, which is why he is often attracted to drawing iconic musicians of different music styles.  Drawing musicians in the process of playing music, capturing their feeling and passion, is a particular joy to Bob.  Although Bob is competent in most mediums of paint, air brush, and various forms of drawing, he has specialized in Pen drawing. The shading is created by drawing thousands of small lines and dots, using a technique known as “Cross-Hatching”. An average drawing takes 25-50 hours to complete, due to the meticulous detail.  During our recent covid-quarentine, Bob re-imagined some of his techniques, adding a watercolor wash with splatters underneath the pen work.

Among the other juried art shows that Bob regularly participates in: Pittsburgh’s 3-Rivers Art Festival, Harrisburg Art Festival, Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival, Peoples Choice Festival of Pennsylvania, Springfest Festival in Ocean City, Christmas in the Country (Premiere Promotions), and various Sugarloaf Art Festivals.
