The Northwest Territory Bluegrass Band has been performing its own unique style of music since its first performance back in 1989. That style is inclusive of not only bluegrass music but also, country, folk, and gospel. Original material also abounds in the band's repertoire. The band prides itself on a very fast paced and vibrant stage presence presented in a professional and entertaining manner.
The band has performed at venues from Canada to Florida and from New York to Illinois. They have played at a variety of venues including bluegrass festivals, summer concert series, arts centers, fairs, and private functions. They are comfortable on any stage and always play to please the audience.
Mike Gorrell is the founding member of the band and writes the majority of the band's original material. He is the band's manager, emcee, vocalist and an accomplished guitarist and mandolin player. He was a 10-year member of the Whetstone Run Bluegrass Band and is also a successful country and bluegrass DJ.
Sam Brookover started his career playing fiddle with the Frontier Valley Boys and went on to play with The Front Porch Pickers, The Brookover Brothers, Wills Creek, and 20 years leading the WV based Stoneycreek. His solid instrumental prowess and his extreme knowledge of bluegrass and country music adds greatly to the band's performances. Sam plays the fiddle and mandolin and sings lead and harmony vocals in NWT.
Danny Murray plays banjo and sings lead and harmony vocals. His banjo style is heavily influenced by Earl Scruggs but with a modern twist. His band and recording credits include The Wriston Bothers, The Brookover Brothers, Copperfield Junction, The Grey Eagle Band, Surefire, Buck and Company, Union Valley and The Gospel Strings.
Patsy Brookover plays acoustic bass and sings lead, tenor and high baritone. She has performed with the Brookover Brothers, Sour Mash String Band, and 20 years with Stoneycreek. She brings solid bass playing to the band and her vocal range helps Northwest Territory continue its tradition of providing a wide range of vocal arrangements.
This group of musicians has a harmony blend that is sure to please with a variety of duets, trios and lead vocals. They approach each and every song differently which makes the song list distinct and varied. The choice of material is both traditional and modern and pleasing to a Wide spectrum of audiences.
